Giveaway: Preemie/Newborn Hat

Saturday, September 11, 2010

When we brought our newest little one home from the hospital a month ago, she weighed 5 pounds 12 ounces. We had the uniform striped hospital hat to help keep her red head warm (I still can't believe that she has red hair, seriously, where did that come from?), but after a day or two the threads started coming apart, and who wants to wear the same hat everyday anyways?

We had a basket filled with hats upstairs, beside the rest of her clothes, but none of them were small enough. Well, one was, it was actually marked on the tag as "6 months", LIE, so- we needed hats!

I must have searched on Etsy for an hour, not finding anything in my price range (seriously, $25 for a baby hat?! Who can afford that?), or anything that wasn't all frilled up with pom poms or fringe. I was searching for preemie hats, to be specific, since anything labeled as "newborn" would surely be too big.

Finally I came across a basic, handmade, beanie.

No fake bear ears, no sewn-on button noses or simply stitched cat whiskers, no embellished names- just, a hat.

Yay, Caprice Creations! Just six dollars for a preemie/newborn hat. Hot dog!

And while I really wanted to share this great find with all of you, because maybe you or someone you know has, or will have, the same problem- trying to find a teeny tiny hat for a good price (for those of us who can't sew, crochet, or knit), Caprice Creations sent me an extra one, to giveaway!

Now that Evelyn is older, I do wish that this hat came with a chin strap (I bet I could just tie some yarn of my own on there?)- silly little girl wiggles right out of it, now that she can turn and lift her head! However, when she was my bun fresh out of the oven, it was just what we needed.

I'm mostly drawn to a good solid beanie with [like you said] no silly whiskers or bunny ears on top.
Out of her shop, I'd probably pick the lime or amethyst beanie. I like the teal too, although I guess that's just getting down to my color preference.

Haha/
Thanks for the opportunity,

I need this! My son was born with a small head (not that I'm complaining, he came out in three pushes!) and I expect his sister will be smaller, too. We had the hardest time finding hats. Love the Neapolitan Baby Beanie, too cute!

don't enter me, but know you've got a hat on the way. for speed, i made it plain but wanted to put something cute on it. but didn't. for speed. anyway, it's got little ties, and i hope it fits. it's got some ribbing, so it's stretchy, so hopefully it'll fit her little head as it gets bigger too.
