Don't Wake The Sleeping Babe

Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Once upon a time, there was a precious sleeping babe...

She lay peacefully in her Mother's lap.

Sleep, sleep, sleep- she says.

Until the older brother came along...

With a sip of his water, and a grin of his mouth-

He thumped his fist down onto the babe's head, in the least gentle way possible.

"Evelyn June! Evelyn June!", he shouted. "Evelyn June, hair!"

The babe awoke abruptly.

She pulled her knees into her chest, squinted her eyes tightly shut, and put those strong lungs of hers to work.

As soon as her cries settled from agony into a slight annoyance, she gave him the look.

He pleaded innocent, of course.

He was just petting her hair.
Whats the harm in that?

The babe would have responded, but was soon gently pacified by her Mother's finger, back into a deep sleep.

Where she dreamt of touching sticky things...

And eating sour grapes.

Being such a handsome young man, the older brother managed to avoid getting into trouble.

He only punched his newborn sister in the head, after all.
Really, no big deal.
Not with those big brown eyes, at least.

But the babe kept her guard up.

Just in case.

It's amazing what big brown eyes can get you out of, just ask me and my sister! I'm glad Evelyn drifted off back to sleep after that.
