Our First Flower Garden

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

The Easter Bunny brought Eleanore a set of tin buckets, a bag of soil, and lots and lots of beautiful flowers that needed to be planted. After our egg hunt and a bite to eat, we changed out of our holiday outfits, put on some warm weather clothes, soaked ourselves in sunblock (I'd be lost without spf in a can, by the way), and out we went- to plant our first flower garden!

We set ourselves up on the driveway, right beside the grass. We put on our gardening gloves and got out our tools, we scooped dirt, we chased after runaway buckets that had been swiped away by curious little babies, and when all was said and done, we lined up our flower filled buckets along the brick wall on the front porch, to watch our new garden grow.

I never thought I'd be interested in gardening. I've always disliked the feel of dirt on my hands. And then, I discovered gloves.

I never thought that I'd want to go for a stroll in the garden center as a form of relaxation, because as a child, I did everything possible to avoid it.

Thank you Easter Bunny, for bringing us the perfect afternoon, and the supplies for many more.

I LOVE walking through all the flowers at lowes. I am not good at keeping them alive so I usually leave them behind. The watering can is adorable :)

Love it! :) I love to garden and I'm hoping to get Johnny involved with helping me this year too. We usually try to plant on Earth Day every year. Love the pictures!

Again with the beautiful photography! Wow...too fun!
I worked for as a gardener for 5 years. I HATE dirt under my nails! So I always had gloves, and a matching gardening bag, and a matching kneeling pad:)

That is SO great! I've always loved gardening, and I'm pretty sure I have my parents to thank for it. My mom always took me shopping for plants, but it was my dad who helped me, gave me my own spot in the yard, killed spiders for me, and made sure when I forgot to water my plants. I have a lot of good memories gardening, and to this day I still work in the yard. It's relaxing. You can never start too early or too late in getting the gardening bug. :)

PS. Sometimes when I read your post like this one, making magically bunny food, baking, finding cool stuff on the curb and cleaning it, I wish we were friends in real life because that's all stuff I love to do. :)

Such pretty flowers. Planting them is half the fun. After that, I spend my time hoping that I don't kill them. :s

I still need to go buy stuff to start gardening at our house. Right now it's pretty bare but i need to add some kind of color around the house! Callie would love doing it too.

your easter bunny is awesome!! ;o)

the garden center at Lowe's and the nurseries are my favorite places to shop ... I'd rather buy gardening stuff than go to the mall lol

p.s. the snail watering can is too cute!!

Amelia got a mini rose plant when she was recovering from her tonsil surgery and she begged me for DAYS to put it in the ground until we finally got it done. I just got all of the dried up and dead plants that didn't survive the winter out of the flower beds...now I just need to get out and buy new plants so we can get hopping on finishing up our garden!

Those little buckets are just too cute.

beautiful pictures and it looks like fun! I always plant flowers in the spring and pray that I remember to water them! I love geraniums and marigolds!

So pretty! The Target dollar bins are GOLDMINES right now for this stuff!

I just made a blog button - thanks for the little nudge! It was very easy :)

Fun! I was the same way about gardening. I now enjoy it! Probably because I have my own house!

The colors are beautiful! It's refreshing seeing children get to spend so much time outside and bonding with their family!
